RIPK1은 수용체 상호작용 단백질(receptor-interacting protein, RIP) 계열에 속하는 세린/트레오닌 단백질 키나아제(serine/threonine kinase)를 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 조직 손상과 병원체 인식에 대한 반응, 그리고 발달 조절의 일부로서 염증(inflammation) 및 세포 사멸에 관여하며, RIPK1/RIPK3 키나아제가 매개하는 괴사는 네크롭토시스(necroptosis)로 불린다. 생쥐에서 이 유전자를 유전적으로 교란하면 출생 직후 사망에 이른다.
