G 단백질은 다양한 세포 과정에 관여합니다. 이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 G 단백질 신호 조절(RGS, regulators of G-protein signaling) 계열에 속하며, 특히 G 단백질 GAI3와 상호작용합니다. 이 단백질은 구아노신 삼인산 가수분해효소-활성 단백질(guanosine triphosphatase-activating protein)으로, Gαi/Gαq 연결 신호를 하향 조절하는 역할을 합니다. 동일한 단백질 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체(alternative spliced transcript variants)가 이 유전자에서 발견되었습니다.
