이 유전자가 지정하는 단백질은 단일 막 통과 단백질 패밀리인 RAMP (receptor (calcitonin) activity modifying proteins)의 일원입니다. RAMP는 세포질 C 말단과 세포 외부 N 말단을 가진 제1형 막 통과 단백질입니다. RAMP는 칼시토닌 수용체 유사 수용체(CRLR, calcitonin-receptor-like receptor)를 세포막(plasma membrane)으로 운반하는 데 필요합니다. 7개의 막 통과 도메인을 가진 수용체인 CRLR은 어떤 RAMP 패밀리 구성원이 발현되는지에 따라 칼시토닌 유전자 관련 펩타이드(CGRP, calcitonin-gene-related peptide) 수용체 또는 아드레날린메딘 수용체로 기능할 수 있습니다. 이 RAMP2 단백질이 존재할 때 CRLR은 아드레날린메딘 수용체로 기능합니다. RAMP2 단백질은 아드레날린메딘 수용체의 핵심 당화(glycosylation)와 세포 표면으로의 운송에 관여합니다.
