RAC1 유전자는 작은 GTP 결합 단백질의 RAS 슈퍼패밀리(superfamily)에 속하는 GTPase (GTP 결합 단백질)를 암호화합니다. 이 슈퍼패밀리(superfamily)의 구성원은 세포 성장 조절, 세포 골격 재조직, 단백질 키나아제 활성화 등 다양한 세포 이벤트를 조절하는 것으로 보입니다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼을 암호화하는 두 개의 전사 변이가 발견되었습니다.
