유전자 개요
PTTG1이 암호화하는 단백질은 자매 염색분체 분리를 촉진하는 세파린(separin)을 억제하는 효모 세큐린(securin)의 상동체(homolog)로, 후기 촉진 복합체(APC)의 기질(substrate)이며 APC가 활성화되기 전까지 세파린과 결합한다. 이 산물은 시험관 내 형질전환 활성과 생체 내 종양형성 활성을 보이고 여러 종양에서 높게 발현되며, 이러한 활성과 염기성 섬유아세포 성장 인자(bFGF) 발현 자극에 필요한 2개의 PXXP 모티프, APC에 의한 분해에 필요한 파괴 상자(D box), 전사활성화 도메인으로 작용하는 산성 C-말단 영역을 갖는다. 주로 세포질 단백질이지만 일부는 세포핵(nucleus)에 위치하며, 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 3종의 변이체(transcript variant)가 확인되었다.
