PTK7 유전자는 세포막을 가로질러 세포 외 신호를 전달하는 수용체 단백질 티로신 키나아제(receptor protein tyrosine kinase) 계열 단백질 구성원을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 감지 가능한 촉매적 티로신 키나아제 활성(catalytic tyrosine kinase activity)이 없으며, Wnt 신호 전달 경로에 관여하고 극성(polarity) 및 부착(adhesion)을 포함한 다양한 세포 과정에서 역할을 수행한다. 이 유전자에 대해 다중 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체(alternatively spliced transcript variants)가 관찰되었다.
