사이클로옥시게나아제(cyclooxygenase)로도 알려진 프로스타글란딘-엔도퍼옥시드 신타아제(prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase, PTGS)는 프로스타글란딘 생합성 과정의 핵심 효소(enzyme)로서, 다이옥시게나아제(dioxygenase)와 퍼옥시다아제(peroxidase)로 모두 작용합니다. 이 유전자는 염증(inflammation)과 세포분열촉진(mitogenesis)에 관여하는 프로스타노이드 생합성을 담당하며, 특정 자극 사건에 의해 조절되는 유도성 동종효소(inducible isozyme)를 지정합니다.
