유전자 개요
이 유전자는 글루타티온 의존성 프로스타글란딘 E 합성효소(prostaglandin E synthase)를 암호화한다. 이 유전자의 발현은 염증성 사이토카인(cytokine)인 인터루킨 1 베타(interleukin 1 beta, IL1B)에 의해 유도되는 것으로 알려져 있다. 또한 종양 억제 단백질 TP53에 의해서도 발현이 유도될 수 있으며, TP53에 의해 유도되는 세포자멸사(apoptosis)에 관여할 수 있다. 마우스에서의 제거 연구는 이 유전자가 콜라겐 유발 관절염(collagen-induced arthritis)의 병인에 기여하고 염증 반응 중 급성 통증을 매개할 수 있음을 시사한다.
