이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 pre-mRNA 분자의 인트론 내 폴리피리미딘(polypyrimidine) 부위에 결합하며, 다른 스플라이싱 조절 단백질(splicing-regulatory proteins)의 조립을 제어하는 데 관여합니다. 이 단백질은 폴리피리미딘 트랙 결합 단백질(PTB)과 매우 유사하지만, 대부분의 아이소폼(isoform)은 주로 뇌에서 발현됩니다. 대체 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)을 통해 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)가 생성됩니다.
