PRSS1 유전자는 세린 단백질 분해 효소(serine protease)인 트립시노겐(trypsinogen)을 암호화한다. 이 효소는 췌장에서 분비되어 소장에서 활성 형태로 절단된다. 또한, 라이신 또는 아르기닌의 카르복실기에 관여하는 펩타이드 결합에 작용한다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 유전성 췌장염과 관련이 있다.
