PRKG1 유전자는 인간 염색체 10번 상에 위치하며, 대체 전사체 스플라이싱을 통해 PRKG의 수용성 I알파(Ialpha) 및 I베타(Ibeta) 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화한다. 포유류는 세 가지 다른 고리형 GMP-의존성 단백질 키나아제(cyclic GMP-dependent protein kinase, PRKG) 이소형(Ialpha, Ibeta, II)을 가지고 있으며, 이들은 다양한 세포 유형에서 여러 신호 전달 과정의 중요한 구성 요소로 작용한다. PRKG1 단백질은 혈관 및 신경 기능 조절, 평활근 이완, 혈소판 응집 억제, 세포 성장 조절에 중요한 역할을 한다.
