유전자 개요
이 유전자가 지정하는 단백질은 세린/트레오닌 단백질 키나아제(ser/thr protein kinase) 계열에 속합니다. 이 단백질은 5’-아데노신 일인산(AMP) 활성 단백질 키나아제(AMPK)의 촉매 소단위체입니다. AMPK는 모든 진핵 세포에 보존된 세포 에너지 센서입니다. AMPK의 키나아제 활성은 세포 내 AMP/ATP 비율을 증가시키는 자극에 의해 활성화됩니다. AMPK는 인산화(phosphorylation)를 통해 다수의 핵심 대사 효소 활성을 조절합니다. ATP 소모적인 생합성 경로를 차단함으로써 ATP 고갈을 유발하는 스트레스로부터 세포를 보호합니다. 서로 다른 아이소폼을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체가 관찰되었습니다.
