유전자 개요

PREP가 암호화하는 단백질은 세포질 프롤릴 엔도펩티다아제(cytosolic prolyl endopeptidase)로, 약 30개 이하의 아미노산으로 이루어진 펩타이드(peptide) 내 프롤릴 잔기의 C-말단 쪽 펩타이드 결합을 절단한다. 이러한 프롤릴 엔도펩티다아제는 펩타이드 호르몬과 신경펩타이드(neuropeptide)의 성숙 및 분해에 관여하는 것으로 보고되었다.
