유전자 개요
이 유전자에 의해 암호화되는 단백질은 항산화 효소(antioxidant enzyme)이며 퍼록시레독신(peroxiredoxin) 계열에 속한다. 이 단백질은 세포질(cytoplasm)에 위치한다. 퍼록시레독신 계열의 퍼옥시다아제(peroxidase)는 티올 함유 공여체 분자에서 유래한 환원 등가물을 사용하여 과산화수소와 알킬 하이드로퍼옥사이드를 물과 알코올로 환원시킨다. 또한 이 단백질은 전사인자(transcription factor) NF-kappaB 활성화에 조절 역할을 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
