이 유전자는 표피 성장 인자(epidermal growth factor)-유사 반복 서열 내 보존된 세린 또는 트레오닌 잔기에 O-글라이코시드 결합을 통해 O-푸코스를 첨가하는 효소(enzyme)로, 세포 표면 및 분비 단백질에 관여합니다. O-푸코스 글리칸은 리간드(ligand) 유발 수용체(receptor) 신호 전달에 관여합니다. 이 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)은 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사체 변이체를 결과합니다.
