이 단백질은 1-포스파티딜이노시톨-3-키나아제(1-phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase) 활성을 가능하게 한다. 조기 엔도솜에서 후기 엔도솜으로의 수송, 거대 오토파지(macroautophagy), 포스파티딜이노시톨-3-인산 생합성 과정 등 여러 과정에 관여한다. 오토파지 및 단백질 지질화의 양성 조절 내에서 상위에서 작용한다. 오토라이소솜, 후기 엔도솜, 미드바디에 위치한다. 포스파티딜이노시톨 3-키나아제 복합체 III형의 일부이다.
