유전자 개요
PIAS2 유전자는 활성화된 STAT 패밀리 단백질 저해제(protein inhibitor of activated STAT family)의 구성원을 암호화하며, 이들은 SUMO E3 ligase로 기능하여 표적 단백질의 섬모화(sumoylation)를 매개함으로써 다양한 세포 과정에서 중요한 역할을 수행한다. 이 유전자에 대해 여러 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체가 관찰되었다. 암호화된 단백질의 이소형은 p53 종양 억제 단백질, c-Jun, 그리고 안드로겐 수용체(androgen receptor)를 포함한 특정 표적 단백질의 섬모화를 향상시킨다. 이 유전자의 위유전자(pseudogene)는 4번 염색체 단완에 위치한다.
