유전자 개요
PGR은 스테로이드 수용체 상위계열(steroid receptor superfamily)에 속하는 단백질을 암호화하며, 이 단백질은 프로게스테론(progesterone)의 생리적 작용을 매개하여 임신의 성립과 유지에 관여하는 생식 과정에서 중심적인 역할을 한다. 첫 번째 엑손 내의 서로 다른 두 프로모터(promoter)와 번역 개시점을 이용해 단백질 암호화 및 비암호화 전사체 변이체(transcript variant)를 여러 종류 만들어 낸다. 아이소폼(isoform) A와 B는 B형의 N-말단에 추가로 존재하는 165개의 아미노산을 제외하면 동일하며, 두 동형체는 거의 겹치지 않는 각자의 표적 유전자와 생리적 효과를 매개한다.
