유전자 개요

생체시계 조절 유전자(PER1)는 척추동물 뇌의 주요 생체시계 조율자인 시각교차상핵(suprachiasmatic nucleus)에서 생체시계 패턴으로 발현되는 Period 유전자 계열의 구성원입니다. 이 계열 유전자들은 이동 활동, 신진대사, 행동의 생체시계 리듬에 관여하는 구성 요소를 암호화합니다. 본 유전자는 CLOCK/ARNTL 이량체에 의해 상향 조절되지만, 이후 CLOCK/ARNTL과 상호작용하기 위해 PER/CRY 이량체를 이용한 되먹임 고리에서 이러한 상향 조절을 억제합니다. 본 유전자의 다형성은 특정 암 발생 위험을 증가시킬 수 있습니다. 본 유전자에서 대안적 스플라이싱이 관찰되었으나, 이러한 변이체들은 완전히 기술되지 않았습니다.
