이 유전자는 cGMP-억제성 고리형 뉴클레오타이드 포스포다이에스터라제(cGMP-inhibited cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase, cGI-PDE) 계열의 구성원을 암호화한다. cGI-PDE 효소는 cAMP와 cGMP 모두를 가수분해하며, 세포 내 고리형 뉴클레오타이드 신호의 진폭과 지속 시간을 조절하여 다양한 세포 과정에서 중요한 역할을 한다. 이 유전자에 의해 지정된 단백질은 혈소판(platelet) 응집을 매개하고 혈관 평활근 수축 및 이완을 조절하여 심혈관 기능에도 중요한 역할을 한다. 이 단백질의 억제제는 울혈성 심부전 치료에 효과적일 수 있다. 이 유전자에 대해 여러 아이소폼(isoform)를 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체들이 관찰되었다.
