유전자 개요

PCSK9는 분비 경로를 통해 이동하는 단백질 및 펩타이드 전구체를 가공하는 단백질 분해효소(protease)를 포함하는 서브틸리신 유사 프로단백질 전환효소(subtilisin-like proprotein convertase) 계열의 구성원을 암호화한다. 암호화된 단백질은 소포체(ER)에서 프로분절과 함께 자가촉매적 가공을 거친 뒤 비활성 형태로 세포외기질과 트랜스-골지 네트워크로 구성적으로 분비되며, 간·장·신장 조직에서 발현되어 특정 수용체를 리소좀 분해 경로로 인도한다. 콜레스테롤 및 지방산 대사에 관여하고, 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 상염색체 우성 가족성 고콜레스테롤혈증과 연관되어 있다.
