PARP3 유전자는 PARP 계열 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 효소들은 핵 단백질을 폴리(ADP-리보실)화(poly-ADP-ribosylation)하여 DNA 복구, 세포자멸사(apoptosis) 조절, 유전체 안정성 유지에 필수적이다. 이 유전자는 세포 주기 동안 딸 중심립(centriole)에 주로 국소화되는 폴리(ADP-리보실)전달효소 3 (poly(ADP-ribosyl)transferase 3)을 지정한다. 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체들이 확인되었다.
