PAK 단백질은 세린/트레오닌 p21 활성화 키나아제(serine/threonine p21-activating kinase) 계열로, PAK1, PAK2, PAK3, PAK4를 포함합니다. 이 단백질들은 Rho GTPase를 세포골격(cytoskeleton) 재구성 및 핵 신호 전달에 연결하는 핵심 작용체입니다. PAK4는 GTP 결합 단백질인 Cdc42Hs의 GTP 결합 형태와 특이적으로 상호작용하며, JNK 계열 MAP 키나아제를 약하게 활성화합니다. 또한, 필로포디아(filopodia) 형성을 매개하며 액틴 세포골격 재구성에도 역할을 할 수 있습니다.
