ORM1 유전자는 주요 급성기 혈장 단백질(acute phase plasma protein)을 암호화한다. 급성 염증(inflammation)으로 인해 수치가 상승하기 때문에 이 단백질은 급성기 반응 물질(acute-phase reactant)로 분류된다. 이 단백질의 구체적 기능은 아직 밝혀지지 않았으나, 면역억제(immunosuppression)의 일부 측면에 관여할 수 있다.
