이 유전자는 진핵 세포에서 DNA 복제 시작에 필수적인 6개 소단위 단백질 복합체인 ORC(origin recognition complex)의 소단위를 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 ORC3, -4, -5와 핵심 복합체를 형성하며, Epstein-Barr 바이러스의 복제 시작점에서 특이적으로 결합하는 것으로 나타났다. 일부 대체 접합 전사 변이체는 비감염성 매개 mRNA 붕괴(nonsense-mediated mRNA decay) 후보로 발견되었다.
