핵공(nuclear pore complex)은 핵막(nuclear envelope)을 가로지르는 거대한 구조물로, 세포핵(nucleus)과 세포질(cytoplasm) 사이의 거대분자 흐름을 조절하는 관문을 형성한다. NUP62에 의해 암호화되는 이 단백질은 FG-반복을 포함하는 뉴클레오포린(nucleoporin) 계열에 속하며 핵공의 중심 플러그에 국소화된다. 이 단백질은 핵소재신호(nuclear localization signal)를 지닌 단백질의 세포핵 내 수입에 관여하는 임포틴 알파/베타 복합체(importin alpha/beta complex)와 결합한다. 이 유전자의 다수 전사체 변이체(multiple transcript variants)가 단 하나의 단백질 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화한다.
