NRP2는 뉴로필린(neuropilin) 계열 수용체 단백질의 한 구성원을 암호화하며, 암호화된 막관통 단백질은 SEMA3C 및 SEMA3F 단백질에 결합하고 혈관내피 성장인자(vascular endothelial growth factor, VEGF)와 상호작용한다. 이 단백질은 심혈관 발생, 축삭 유도(axon guidance), 종양 형성에 관여하는 것으로 여겨진다. 또한 SARS-CoV-2가 숙주 세포를 감염시키는 데 필요한 공동 수용체(co-receptor)로 작용하는 것으로 확인되었다.
