NPR2는 나트리우레틱 펩타이드(natriuretic peptide)의 두 통합 막(integral membrane) 수용체 중 하나인 나트리우레틱 펩타이드 수용체 B(natriuretic peptide receptor B)를 암호화한다. NPR1과 NPR2는 모두 세포외 리간드(ligand) 결합 도메인, 단일 막 관통 영역, 그리고 세포내의 단백질 키나아제(kinase) 상동 도메인, 올리고머화에 관여하는 나선형 힌지 영역, 카복실 말단 구아닐릴 사이클라아제(guanylyl cyclase) 촉매 도메인 등 다섯 개의 기능 도메인을 갖는다. 특히 C형 나트리우레틱 펩타이드(CNP)의 주요 수용체로서 리간드 결합 시 구아닐릴 사이클라아제 활성이 크게 증가하며, 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 말단-중간지절 이형성(acromesomelic dysplasia) Maroteaux형의 원인이 된다.
