유전자 개요
이 유전자는 진화적으로 보존된 CAN (Cerberus and DAN) 단백질 계열의 창립 구성원이다. 이 단백질들은 신호 분자에 존재하는 CTCK (C-terminal cystine knot-like) 모티프와 유사한 도메인을 포함한다. 이 단백질들은 분비되며, BMP (bone morphogenetic protein)와 결합하여 수용체와 상호작용하는 것을 막음으로써 BMP 길항제(antagonist)로 작용한다. 따라서 성장 및 발달에 중요한 역할을 할 수 있다. 이 유전자에 대해 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이체가 확인되었다.
