유전자 개요
이 유전자는 뮤신 계열에 속하는 막 단백질(integral membrane glycoprotein)을 암호화한다. 뮤신은 상피 세포 표면의 보호용 점액 장벽 형성에 필수적인 역할을 하며, 상피 세포의 재생 및 분화에도 관여한다. 이 당단백질(glycoprotein)은 세포 내 신호 전달에도 기여한다. 이 단백질은 대장, 췌장, 전립선, 자궁 등 다양한 조직의 점막 표면을 덮는 상피 세포의 첨단 막 표면에서 발현된다. 대장암(colorectal cancer) 조직에서는 이 유전자의 발현이 하향 조절된다.
