유전자 개요
이 유전자는 5-메틸테트라하이드로폴레이트-호모시스테인 메틸전이효소(5-methyltetrahydrofolate-homocysteine methyltransferase)를 암호화한다. 이 효소는 코발라민 의존성 메티오닌 합성효소(cobalamin-dependent methionine synthase)라고도 하며, 메티오닌 생합성의 최종 단계를 촉매한다. MTR 유전자의 돌연변이는 메틸코발라민 결핍 보완군 G의 근본 원인으로 확인되었다. 이 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사 변이체들이 발견되었다.
