유전자 개요
이 유전자는 송과선에서 분비되는 주된 호르몬인 멜라토닌에 대한 두 가지 고친화성 수용체(receptor) 중 하나를 암호화한다. 이 유전자의 산물은 G단백질 결합, 7개의 막 관통 도메인을 갖는 수용체(receptor)로, 필수적인 막(membrane) 단백질이다. 망막과 뇌에서 주로 발견되며, 이를 탐지하기 위해서는 RT-PCR이 필요하다. 망막의 광의존적 기능에 참여하며 멜라토닌의 신경생물학적 효과에 관여할 것으로 생각된다.
