유전자 개요

MMP7은 기질 금속단백질분해효소(matrix metalloproteinase, MMP)의 펩티다아제 M10 계열에 속하는 분비성 단백질분해효소를 암호화하며, 배아 발생·생식·조직 재형성 같은 정상 생리 과정과 관절염, 전이 등 질병 과정에서 세포외기질 분해에 관여한다. 전구단백질이 가공되어 생성되는 성숙 효소는 프로테오글리칸, 피브로넥틴, 엘라스틴, 카제인을 분해하며, 대부분의 MMP 계열 구성원과 달리 보존된 C-말단 헤모펙신(hemopexin) 도메인이 없고, 상처 치유에 관여하며 마우스 연구에서는 장 점막 디펜신(defensin)의 활성을 조절하는 것으로 제시되었다. 이 효소를 암호화하는 유전자는 11번 염색체의 MMP 유전자 클러스터에 속하며, 여러 인간 암에서 발현 수준이 증가한다.
