MMP10은 matrix metalloproteinase(MMP) peptidase M10 family의 한 구성원을 암호화한다. 이 family 단백질은 정상 생리과정과 관절염(arthritis)·전이(metastasis) 같은 질병에서 세포외기질(extracellular matrix) 분해에 관여하며, MMP10에서 유래한 성숙 단백질 분해효소(protease)는 fibronectin, laminin, elastin, proteoglycan core protein, gelatin 및 다수 collagen을 분해한다. 이 유전자는 11번 염색체(chromosome 11)의 MMP 유전자 군(cluster)에 속한다.
