유전자 개요
작은 펩타이드 호르몬을 암호화하는 이 유전자는 위장관 수축 및 운동성을 조절하기 위해 소장 세포에서 분비됩니다. 분비된 단백질의 단백질 분해 과정을 통해 성숙한 펩타이드와 motilin-associated peptide (MAP)로 불리는 부산물이 생성됩니다. 이 유전자에는 동일한 성숙한 펩타이드를 암호화하지만 서로 다른 preproprotein isoform을 암호화하는 세 가지 전사체 변이체가 존재합니다.
