유전자 개요
MFGE8 유전자는 전단백질(preproprotein)을 암호화하며, 이 단백질은 단백분해 가공을 거쳐 여러 단백질 산물을 형성한다. 주요 산물인 락타데헤린(lactadherin)은 막(membrane) 당단백질(glycoprotein)로서 apoptosis 세포의 식작용(phagocytosis)을 촉진한다. 이 단백질은 상처 치유, 자가면역 질환, 암(cancer)에도 연관되며, 락타데헤린은 추가로 가공되어 aortic medial amyloid(AMA)의 주요 단백질 성분인 메딘(medin)을 형성하기도 한다.
