유전자 개요
이 유전자는 MER/AXL/TYRO3 수용체 키나아제(receptor kinase) 계열에 속하며, 두 개의 피브로넥틴 타입-III 도메인, 두 개의 면역글로불린 유사 C2형(Ig-like C2-type) 도메인, 그리고 하나의 티로신 키나아제(tyrosine kinase) 도메인을 가진 막 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 망막 색소 상피(retinal pigment epithelium, RPE) 식작용(phagocytosis) 경로의 교란 및 상염색체 열성 망막색소변성증(autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa, RP)의 발병과 관련이 있다.
