이 유전자는 작은 인테그린 결합 리간드(SIBLING) 계열 당단백질(glycoprotein) 단백질에 속하는 분비성 칼슘 결합 인단백질(phosphoprotein)을 암호화합니다. 이 계열 구성원은 뼈와 상아질의 세포외 기질을 이루며 뼈의 광물화를 조절합니다. 유사 단백질 결핍은 쥐에서 골량 증가를 초래하며, 이 유전자가 없는 쥐는 노화 관련 섬유주 골소실에 저항성을 보입니다. 대체 스플라이싱은 여러 전사체 변이를 일으킵니다.
