유전자 개요
이 단백질은 진핵세포 게놈 복제(replication)의 시작에 관여하는 고도로 보존된 미니염색체 유지 단백질(MCM) 중 하나이다. MCM 단백질들이 형성하는 육량체(六聚體) 복합체는 복제 전 복합체(pre-replication complex, pre-RC)의 핵심 구성 요소로, 복제 포크(replication fork) 형성 및 기타 DNA 복제 관련 단백질의 모집에 관여할 수 있다. 이 단백질은 MCM2-7로 구성된 단백질 복합체의 한 소단위체이며, MCM5/CDC46와 직접 상호작용한다. 또한 염색질(chromatin) 관련 아세틸기전이효소인 MCM3AP와 상호작용하여 아세틸화(acetylation)되며, 이러한 아세틸화는 DNA 복제의 시작과 세포 주기(cell cycle) 진행을 억제한다. 이 유전자에는 여러 전사 변이체가 존재하여 서로 다른 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화한다.
