MAFK는 18kD Maf 단백질(MafF, MafG 또는 MafK)과 p45로 구성된 이합체(heterodimer)의 일부로서 NFE2 DNA 결합 활성에 관여하는 단백질이다. 이 단백질은 활성 단백질-1(activator protein-1) 계열의 기본 류신 지퍼(bZIP) 단백질에 속한다. Maf 단백질 이합체는 NFE2 부위에서의 전사를 억제한다.
