이 유전자는 전사 활성 도메인이 없는 기본 류신 지퍼(bZIP) 전사인자 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 옥시토신 수용체(OTR) 유전자의 프로모터에 있는 US-2 DNA 부위에 결합하며, 만기 임신 중에 OTR 유전자의 발현을 증진시키기 위해 다른 류신 지퍼 함유 단백질과 이종이합체화할 가능성이 높다고 알려져 있습니다. 암호화된 단백질은 또한 동종이합체화를 형성할 수 있으며, 전사 활성 도메인이 없기 때문에 동종이합체는 전사의 억제자로 작용할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자는 세포 스트레스 반응에도 관여할 수 있습니다. 두 개의 다른 아이소폼을 암호화하는 여러 전사 변이체가 이 유전자에 대해 발견되었습니다.
