유전자 개요

이 단백질은 백혈구의 베타7 인테그린(integrin) LPAM-1 (alpha4beta7), L-셀렉틴(L-selectin), 그리고 골수세포(myeloid cells)의 VLA-4 (alpha4beta1)와 우선적으로 상호작용하여 백혈구가 점막 및 염증 조직으로 향하도록 유도하는 내피세포 부착 분자이다. 이 단백질은 면역글로불린(immunoglobulin) 계열에 속하며 ICAM1 및 VCAM1과 유사하다. 이 유전자에는 서로 다른 단백질 아이소폼(isoform)을 암호화하는 최소 7개의 대체 스플라이싱 전사체(alternatively spliced transcript)가 발견되었으나, 일부 변이체의 전체 길이는 아직 결정되지 않았다.
