유전자 개요

이 유전자에 의해 암호화되는 단백질은 다중 도메인 구조를 가진 세포외 기질 단백질인 잠재성 형질전환 성장인자(TGF, transforming growth factor)-베타 결합 단백질(LTBP, latent transforming growth factor-beta binding proteins) 계열에 속한다. 이 단백질은 LTBP 계열에서 가장 큰 구성원으로, 고유한 부위를 가지며 섬유상 단백질(fibrillins)과 가장 유사하다. 따라서 TGF-베타 잠재 복합체의 구성원으로서, 미세섬유(microfibrils)의 구조적 구성 요소로서, 그리고 세포 부착에서의 역할 등 다중 기능을 가질 수 있는 것으로 제안되었다.
