유전자 개요
LPO는 과산화효소(peroxidase) 계열 단백질을 암호화하며, 그 산물인 전구전단백질(preproprotein)은 단백질분해 과정을 거쳐 성숙한 효소로 전환된다. 침샘, 유선을 비롯한 여러 점막샘에서 분비된 뒤에는 항균 물질인 하이포티오시안산(hypothiocyanous acid)의 생성을 촉매한다. 17번 염색체의 유전자 클러스터에 위치하며, 대체 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)을 통해 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)가 만들어진다.
