이 유전자는 1-아실-sn-글리세롤-3-인산 아실전이효소(1-acyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase) 단백질 계열에 속하는 구성원을 암호화한다. 이 효소는 인지질 대사에서 라이소포스파티딜콜린(lysophosphatidylcholine)을 아실-CoA(acyl-CoA) 존재 하에 포스파티딜콜린(phosphatidylcholine)으로 전환하는 역할을 한다. 이 과정은 폐 표면활성제 및 혈소판 활성 인자(platelet-activating factor, PAF) 합성에 중요하다. 이 유전자의 발현 증가는 구강 편평세포암, 전립선암, 유방암 및 기타 인체 암 진행에 기여할 수 있다.
