LIPC는 포스포리파아제 A1(phospholipase A1) 활성과 트라이아실글리세롤 리파아제(triacylglycerol lipase) 활성을 매개하여 콜레스테롤 항상성(cholesterol homeostasis), 혈장 지질단백질(plasma lipoprotein) 입자 재형성, 트라이글리세라이드 이화(triglyceride catabolism) 등의 과정에 관여하며, 세포외 공간(extracellular space)에 위치한다. 알츠하이머병, 관상동맥질환, 가족성 복합 고지혈증, 말초혈관질환, 제2형 당뇨병(type 2 diabetes mellitus) 등 여러 질환과 연관되며, 고인슐린혈증, 비만, 제1형 당뇨병(type 1 diabetes mellitus)의 바이오마커로 보고된다.
