유전자 개요
LIN28A 유전자는 발달 시기와 배아줄기세포의 자기 재생에 관여하는 유전자들의 전사 후 조절자로 작용하는 LIN-28 계열 RNA-결합 단백질(RNA-binding protein)을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 표적 mRNA(messenger RNA)와 직접 상호작용하고 배아 발달에 관여하는 특정 microRNA(miRNA)의 성숙을 방해함으로써 기능한다. 이 단백질은 세포 성장과 분화의 주요 조절자인 LET7 계열의 마이크로RNA(microRNA)의 말단 처리를 방지한다. 이 유전자의 비정상적인 발현은 여러 조직에서 암(cancer) 진행과 관련이 있다.
