LHCGR 유전자는 황체형성호르몬(luteinizing hormone)과 융모성 성선자극호르몬(choriogonadotropin)에 대한 수용체(receptor)를 암호화한다. 이 수용체는 G 단백질 연결 수용체 1(G-protein coupled receptor 1) 계열에 속하며, G 단백질을 통해 활성이 조절되어 아데닐릴 사이클레이즈(adenylate cyclase)를 활성화시킨다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 남성 2차 성징 발달 장애를 유발하며, 여기에는 가족성 남성 조발사춘기(familial male precocious puberty), 고환 독성증(testotoxicosis), 저성선자극호르몬성 성선기능저하증(hypogonadotropic hypogonadism), 조발사춘기를 동반한 라이디히 세포 선종(Leydig cell adenoma with precocious puberty), 라이디히 세포 형성 부전을 동반한 남성 유사 외음부 여성화(male pseudohermaphroditism with Leydig cell hypoplasia) 등이 포함된다.
