이 유전자는 분비성 류신-풍부 반복(leucine-rich repeat, LRR) 슈퍼패밀리(superfamily)에 속하며 SLIT 단백질 계열과 상동성을 공유한다. 해당 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 전압 개폐 칼륨 채널(voltage-gated potassium channels)의 활성을 조절할 수 있으며, 신경 성장 조절 및 세포 생존에 관여할 수 있다. 이 유전자는 교모세포종(glioblastoma) 세포주에서 전좌(translocations)로 인해 재배열되며, 악성(malignant) 신경교종에서 빈번하게 하향 조절되거나 재배열된다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 상염색체 우성 측두엽 간질(autosomal dominant lateral temporal epilepsy)을 유발한다. 대안적 스플라이싱(Alternative splicing)은 여러 전사체 변이체(transcript variants)를 생성한다.
