이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 포스포티로신 결합 (PTD) 도메인을 포함하는 세포질 단백질이다. PTD 도메인은 LDL 수용체(LDL receptor)의 세포질 꼬리와 상호작용하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 LDL 수용체 오작동을 유발하여 상염색체 열성 고콜레스테롤혈증(autosomal recessive hypercholesterolaemia)이라는 질환의 원인이 된다.
